Scouting Report:

Jack is the son of former long time big leaguer Al Leiter. In high school, Leiter played alongside top Yankee prospect Anthony Volpe at the Delbarton School (NJ). Leiter could have easily gone in the 1st round of the 2019 Draft out of HS but decided to honor his commitment to Vanderbilt. Due to his age Leiter was eligible to be drafted after his sophomore year in 2021. Leiter was one of the most dominant pitchers in college baseball in 2021 as he had a 2.13 ERA with 179 SO and a 0.85 WHIP in 110 IP. The hype around him leading up to the draft was sky high. The Rangers selected him 2nd overall in the 2021 Draft.

Leiter’s FB velocity can be a bit all over the board. At times in college he sat in the 96-98mph range and at others the 92-94mph range. On average he sits 93-97mph and will get up to 98/99mph. He has touched 100mph on a few occasions as well. He has great life and vertical break to his FB making it almost untouchable up in the zone. He gets an exploding darting movement to his FB and commands it extremely well. Leiter’s best secondary pitch is his CB which gets 12-6 break to it. The pitch itself doesn’t have the tightest break in the world and can be a bit loopy at times. What makes it a solid offering for Leiter, is his ability to throw it wherever and whenever he wants to. Leiter will also throw a SL in addition to his CB. His SL is a slightly above average pitch for him, although he doesn’t land it as consistently for strikes as he does with his CB. Leiter also mixes in a CH. His CH is decently deceptive, but is more of a feel pitch for him.

It is important to note that Leiter lost some velo on his FB and did not look as sharp during the CWS. He gave up 14 HRs in 110 IP with most of them coming at the end of the season in regionals and the CWS. While the caliber of play was higher, there has been some concern about Leiter’s long term stamina because of this.

Scouting Report:

Winn has been one of the more consistent pitchers in the Rangers system since being drafted 15th overall in 2015. Last year, while he was dominant he did have two minor setbacks. He only pitched in 86 innings last year as he had a minor ankle injury and had to leave the team due to Covid-19 protocols at separate times last year. However, when he’s healthy his main two pitches are an above-average fastball that sits 92-95 he can touch high-90’s with and a plus curveball with solid vertical drop. Both pitches will come with good swing-and-miss numbers going forward. He also displays a good slider with solid late bite and a changeup with average potential. One note on Winn, he’s gone five-plus innings in 18 of his last 37 starts dating back to last year. So if Winn can get more consistent with his control and go longer in outings. In turn, he has the ceiling of at least a #2 starter and Rangers fans should enjoy the duo of Jack Leiter and Cole Winn going forward.

Scouting Report:

It was a huge blow to the Rangers when it was announced that Josh Jung would miss significant time during the 2022 season from a shoulder injury. He was expected to make his debut sometime during the season, but now it is uncertain when that will happen. There’s a lot of hype that comes from Jung’s bat, as he shows the ability hit with both average and power. At third, he shows nice arm strength but won’t be impressive defensively, but after the shoulder injury, there are question marks now if he can stay at third, a move to first might be the best route so another one won’t happen.

Scouting Report:

Duran was one of the main prospects acquired for Joey Gallo last season and there’s considerable upside with Duran. He has already debuted in 2022 and has done some serious damage in the minors. Duran, when fully matured, will be a solid power and solid speed prospect while being an everyday player for the Rangers. Just to breakdown the numbers a bit, he’s 96th percentile in sprint speed at 29.5 ft/s and is among the 60th percentile in max exit velocity at 109.6 mph. So, these numbers are showing that the power should translate nicely and Duran should be a good runner throughout his career. In the end, Duran’s tools land him as a top of the lineup bat going forward. However, I think he must walk more and spray the ball better in order for him to reach his full potential as an everyday outfielder with 20/20 potential.

Scouting Report:

Foscue shows off good footwork, range, and glove work to be an average fielder at second base, but it is the bat that will determine his future with the Rangers. While a 28.2% K% is high, it comes with being an aggressive hitter at the plate. He uses a leg kick, tight swing, and direct bat plane to post a 53.3% FB% and a 30.0% HR/FB during his time in Rookie and A (Adv) in 2021. While his stint in AA was a disappointment that saw his offensive production trend in the wrong direction, there is time for Foscue to readjust facing a higher level of competition. Based on his success at the plate for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, there is reason to believe Foscue should be able to bounce back and become an offensive-minded second baseman for the Texas Rangers.

Scouting Report:

I’m pretty confident in saying Ian Moller will be the future of the Rangers behind the plate. The sound that comes off his bat is something special and there’s solid raw power in his bat that’ll translate well as he matures. Behind the plate, he has a strong arm and is athletic. He also has that bulldog mentality and will be good at handling pitching staffs. Overall, Moller has exceptional tools and when he starts making more consistent contact and drawing more walks he’ll be a good major league player.

Scouting Report:

Expectations grew for LuisAngel Acuna after Ronald stated that his little brother would be better than him. While the younger Acuna is an exciting player in his own, some of the hype has gotten out of hand for him. LuisAngel doesn’t have the power that Ronald has but still projects for big-league average and has the ability to drive the ball deep into gaps giving him lots of extra base hit projection. He runs the bases well and will steal bases at the big-league level and the thought of a 20-20 player in the future wouldn’t be unrealistic.

Scouting Report:

The Rangers already have a lot of infield depth in their system, and they only added to it when they drafted Cam Cauley out of Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, TX and signed him for $1,000,000. While he doesn’t show much power projection, he knows how to hit and with his plus speed, he’ll bring value on the basepaths and has a solid chance to stay at short. There’s a lot of projection in Cauley and he could be one of the more athletic prospects in the Rangers system.

Scouting Report:

The Rangers drafted Mitch Bratt out of Canada in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB Draft and signed him for $850,000. In his professional debut, Bratt hit 95 with his fastball that showed a lot of life. His curve is his best pitch and hit 81 with downward bite that can fool hitters. His changeup hits mid-80s and is still developing. There’s funk in Bratt’s delivery that only adds to his deception. Bratt was only 17 coming out of the draft, so there’s no need to rush his development and the Rangers will be sitting pretty by the time he’s a finished product.

Scouting Report:

Owen White was taken by the Rangers in the second round in 2018. When you talk about stuff you have to mention White. He has some deception in his delivery and terrific extension to the plate. His fastball sits around 94-95 mph with late sink. His best secondary is a slider that he spots down in the zone with exceptional vertical movement. His other two offerings are a curveball and a changeup, the curveball being the better of the two. He burst onto the scene in the Arizona Fall League and if you’re a Rangers fan the thought of a future rotation revolving around Leiter, Winn, Bratt, and White is something to look forward to.
