One of the most intriguing names in the 2021 Draft, Kevin Abel demonstrates solid pitching ability but has had an interesting last couple of years. He missed a lot of baseball due to Tommy John Surgery, whilst also passing up the chance to sign as an Undrafted pick in 2020. Kevin Abel returned to Oregon State, where he is looking to make up for lost time in 2021 before the Draft.

As mentioned in the report above, he mixes a solid 3-pitch arsenal. His fastball and changeup are his 2 main pitches, whilst his curveball is slowly developing.
There isn’t the velocity there to overpower hitters, but his ability to miss barrels and create some movement on his pitches allow for him to pick up both strikes and groundouts.
Although he hasn’t played much baseball since 2019, he has an intriguing profile that can only improve. Check out some clips here:
I fully expect Abel to be picked on the first day of the Draft. There would have been some disappointment in not being drafted in 2020, but after his recent injury history, teams didn’t want to take a chance in a smaller Draft.
Coming into 2021, he is healthy, he would have had baseball with OSU, and he should be able to demand a higher Draft pick due to this. His arsenal is impressive, albeit lacking some control and command.
