When the 2020 MLB Draft dust settled and eyes turned towards the 2021 Class, Tyree Reed was a Top 2-3 player on virtually any list you got your eyes on. A left-handed, projectable, athletic centerfielder with 5 tool potential don’t exactly grow on trees.

Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, Tyree was unable to attend some early events to showcase his skill set and solidify himself at the top of the class. But as the summer went on, Tyree slowly got into some action in front of scouts and other eyes eager to see how he progressed through the past few months of not seeing much live pitching at all. Right away you could see the athleticism, twitch and overall ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball was still evident and this was a confirmed, legitimate 1st Round talent in the making.

VIDEO BREAKDOWN

The Power that Reed generates is impressive. With that bat speed, body torque, and spine tilt added to the frame that should add 10-15lbs of good weight, there is every reason to see Reed develop into a 25+ HR a year.

As mentioned in the report above, a lot of his power shows up to the pull side to this point, but as he adds that weight and strength, I expect him to see a few of those deep gap shots (like the one a few videos below) the other way find the seats.

It’s not all power here. As previously mentioned, Tyree Reed has 5 Tool potential (All 5 tools grading 55 or better) Not as common as it may seem, but that’s the skillset your buying into here.

Below, you will see 2 swings showing off that hitability Gap-Gap with an impressive feel for the barrel. Just consistently seems to find a way to barrel up balls into the gap or as seen in the 2nd video, find that hole between 1st base and 2nd base often.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This is one of the best toolsets in the class from top to bottom. The energy and passion he brings to the field are contagious. Added to the great makeup and leadership qualities, Tyree Reed is one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2021 Class.

In so many ways he resembles a future Curtis Granderson for all those reasons mentioned above plus the production on the field. That’s a future prospect any organization will be eager to get their hands on and develop into a future star in the big leagues.
