<p>Ever since he started high school, the Ballston, NY native has shown an ability to produce at the plate. He was named twice to the All-State first team for the Ballston Spa Scotties and was a two-time Suburban Council Player of the Year, leading the Scotties to their first championship in 2019, and concluded his senior year with a .456 AVG, 12 HR, and 44 RBI. After his first year at Boston College, Gold elected to play for the Cotuit Kettleers during the Cape Cod League Season. He began catching the eyes of professional baseball organizations and improved as the season went along, slugging 6 HR and driving in 23 runs, while posting a 1.078 OPS. Now in 2022 with teammates Sal Frelick and Cody Morissette gone, Luke Gold now stands as the biggest run producer for the Eagles.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Hit: 55</strong></h2>



<p>Luke Gold features a wide and closed batting stance, knees bent, with his hands loaded behind his head and above the shoulders. Questions might have begun to swirl about Gold’s ability to hit after struggling in 2020, but with a proven high school track record of producing in the batter’s box, Gold adjusted to collegiate pitching, and turned the corner for the Eagles in. He uses a wiggle, small leg kick, and stride for timing, along with quick wrists/bat speed, compact swing, while keeping his head still/focused to spoil and muscle pitches to the pull and opposite field.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Power: 50</strong></h2>



<p>Gold tends to be hit over power, focusing on making consistent contact at the plate, instead of aiming for the long ball in each at bat. However, he has shown an ability to produce average power, with implemented changes to his swing in the middle of at bats, especially with pitches higher in the strike zone. He tightens up his swing to allow a shorter bat path and quicker timing to the baseball, where he can either muscle pitches into the gaps for doubles, or hit the ball over the fence to both the pull and opposite side of the field.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Glove: 50 Arm: 50</strong></h2>



<p>He has seen time at third base, but second base looks like a good spot on the infield for Gold. The slightly below average speed does not seem to affect his range and he is showing signs of good footwork, quick transfer from glove to throwing hand, and good arm strength and throwing accuracy to make the routine plays. Also, with proper instruction and repetition, the fielding has the chance to continue to improve.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Speed: 45</strong></h2>



<p>While Gold is not a big base stealer, he is aggressive and hustles right out of the batter’s box, runs the bases effectively, and shows instinctive decision-making to get the most out of his aggressiveness and hustle mentality, to positively impact the team.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Role: 5</strong></h2>



<p>The Atlantic Coast Conference has had a recent track record of hitters being taken in the first three rounds of the draft, and Gold could follow down a similar path. A pro that teams should feel good about when looking to draft Gold is his long track record of being able to hit. He has the capability to hit in the .265-.275 AVG range with 13-17 home run power not out of the realm of possibilities, the rest of his power coming in the form of doubles, not to mention low strikeout rates, high on base percentages, and steal 3-6 bases.
