If you like nasty breaking balls and pitchers making hitters look silly, Jackson Jobe might be your new favorite pitcher. Possibly possessing the best Slider in the class, Jobe dominates hitters with it with elite spin and heavy horizontal movement, as you will read and see more below.

The Slider isn’t everything Jobe can offer. A good athlete, working mid 90s with his Fastball and wrinkles in a solid Changeup on occasion that has the makings of a fine 3rd pitch capable of allowing Jobe to stick in the rotation.

Jackson Jobe is a name that will come off the board pretty quickly in the 2021 MLB Draft, very likely somewhere in the back half of the 1st-Comp Round selection. With the remaining development, he has remaining to hammer down his arsenal, command, and durability, Jobe has as much upside as any Pitcher in the class.

Video Breakdown

This is just unfair…

If you get to an 0-2 count against Jobe you may as well walk back to the bench. Even when you know it’s coming, the Slider is to hard to pass up, with that late action disappearing off the outer edge of the plate to Right-handed hitters.

Coming out of the hand looking just like his mid 90s Fastball…until its not. Not often does a prep pitcher grab a future 70 breaking ball, but you cant ignore the effectiveness and ability to play off his Fastball with the tunneling.

Early on during the PG National, Jackson Jobe was showcasing his skillset on the dirt and in the box. Quick swing, athletic profile that has a chance to see some 2-way action if he ends up making his way to Mississippi next Spring. If he chooses to go pro, I would fully expect his future team to commit to him fully on the mound where he has legitimate big league potential.

Final Thoughts

Jobe has some development to do in terms of maintaining his stuff deeper into starts and control of his stuff. But given the fact he has never focused as a Starting Pitcher in his life, I fully expect him to find that success and ability to stick in the rotation in due time.

Jobe has the stuff to end up in the back of the bullpen if he doesn’t make it as a Starter. The wipeout potential of the FB/SL Combo truly has the potential to be truly elite.

My money is on Jobe sticking in the rotation long-term. Ending up as a consistent #2/3 SP, that flashes Ace upside at times with dominates stretches and bat missing abilities.
